Time to put the summer season in the rear view, folks. The fall is here and with it we can start looking at the movies which are going to be talked about pretty heavily as the award build begins. Four new posters have been released for just a few of the most eagerly awaited, so let's just get right into them...
The first is a new poster for Ang Lee's magical Life of Pi, which sports the tagline "Believe the unbelievable". Based on Yann Martel's best selling novel. the film stars newcomer Suraj Sharma as a young man who survives a shipwreck in the Pacific Ocean, only to be stuck on a lifeboat with a 450 lb. Bengal tiger. The tagline's a little weak, but I like how in all of the promo materials they make sure to emphasize the tiger's power and majesty. Looking forward to this one, big time. Life of Pi opens in 3D on November 21st.
Next up, Clint Eastwood makes his return to the big screen in the baseball drama, Trouble with the Curve, the first time since 1993 he's acting in a movie he didn't direct himself. He plays an aging baseball scout whose losing his eyesight, while Amy Adams plays his daughter, who goes off on one last road trip with him to check out a prospect. Basically it's like a reverse Moneyball, with some family turmoil thrown in for good measure. Justin Timberlake manages to find his way onto the poster, as well, playing a young scout who gets to hook up with Adams. Lucky bastisch. Trouble with the Curve rounds the bases on September 21st.
And finally, a pair of extremely unimpressive posters for Killing Them Softly, Andrew Dominik's crime flick that stars Brad Pitt as an enforcer investigating the robbery of a mob controlled poker match. The marketing folks behind these two lazy pieces of junk can be forgiven because the trailer was so awesome. The international translation is kinda cool, though. Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Richard Jenkins, Scoot McNairy, and Ben Mendelsohn will star when the film opens on October 19th.
