New trailer for the butter sculpting comedy, 'Butter', starring Jennifer Garner

Wait..an allegory of the 2008 Presidential primary between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, set against the backdrop of a butter sculpting competition? Just sounds crazy enough to work! Actually, Butter has been around for awhile, debuting at last year's TIFF and looked to be headed towards some possible award season love, but instead got bumped when it looked it might get lost in the shuffle. It still might, to be perfectly honest, even though the newly released trailer looks like inspired stuff.

Jennifer Garner plays Laura, a sweet and sexy Tracy Flick-type woman who embarks on a quest to win the Iowa butter sculpting championship from her cheating husband(Ty Burrell). She runs into an unexpected hurdle from Destiny(Yara Shahidi), an adopted African-American girl who has a natural gift for sculpting and confidence in spades. I guess since she's black that would make her Barack Obama back when he was the young upstart threatening the established Clintons. And yeah, there's a sex scandal as well, with Olivia Wilde playing the home-wrecking Monica Lewinsky figure.

Most people probably won't latch on to the political aspect of it, and honestly it doesn't appear to be that big of a factor. I'm curious to see how this plays in front of audiences, because it does feature an easily marketable cast, with Hugh Jackman in a small supporting role, Rob Corddry in what many are saying is his finest work yet, along with Ashley Greene and Alicia Silverstone. The film is directed by Jim Field Smith, who scored a pretty decent-sized hit with She's Out of My League.

Butter opens in theaters on October 5th....
