Watch the depressing alternate opening to 'Marvel's The Avengers'

That's Marvel's hand in your pocket right now, digging in there for another handful of your hard-earned cash. After scoring the biggest hit of the summer, and one of the biggest of all-time with The Avengers, Marvel is coming around for another pass when the film hits DVD/Blu-Ray next month. While we've already seen a glimpse of the numerous special bonus features the package will include, we're now getting a look at what could have been the opening sequence to the film. Thank goodness they didn't go with it.

In this version of Joss Whedon's film, we don't get any of quippy dialogue, magical energy, or Loki's prattling that we saw in theaters. Instead we get what is really a depressing, slow moving re-telling of events by Maria Hill(Cobie Smulders) after what she describes as the "Tesseract event". Other than showing us a little more of the defiant attitude towards Nick Fury that we'll hopefully see more of later, this is a pretty terrible scene and worthy of being thrown in the junk pile.

Check it out below, and be sure to pre-order your copy of The Avengers before it hits stores on September 26th....
