A Good Day to Die Hard would be a lot more interesting if it were simply titled McClane Goes to Moscow. As it stands I'm having a hard time getting excited for the fifth film in the dried up franchise and follow-up to the remarkably tame Live Free or Die Hard. With the new trailer right around the corner, EW has dropped the first official image from the film that will see John McClane trading barbs with his son Jack, played by Jai Courtney(Spartacus: Blood and Sand).
Directed by John Moore(Max Payne) and written by Skip Woods(The A-Team), this time McClane manages to attract trouble while in Russia, only this time he's got his hot-headed son in tow. Could we see Willis possibly "passing the torch" to Courtney? Probably not, as Courtney is simply too much of an unknown and this is Willis' franchise. Period. Die Hard doesn't exist without him. As for the dynamic between the two McClane's? Courtney had this to say....
Courtney: "The relationship isn’t always functional. These are two guys who have been estranged for some time. John likes to wing it, see what happens. Jack’s more of a strategist.”
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Cole Hauser, Sebastian Koch, and more will co-star when A Good Day to Die Hard opens next Valentine's Day.
