Lynne Ramsay to write and direct sci-fi 'Moby Dick' story 'Mobius'

After taking more than ten years between her breakout Morvern Callar and We Need to Talk About Kevin, suddenly we're talking about multiple Lynne Ramsay projects at once and they all sound great. She's still wrangling the pieces for her western Jane Got a Gun with Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender, and now she's secured financing for Mobius, a sci-fi version of Moby Dick. Sounds awesome already.

Ramsay first began talking about the film last fall, and it's pretty much exactly as described. Using the Herman Melville whaling novel as a basis, her film will again feature an obsessed captain of a ship, only this time he's commanding a starship and is in pursuit of an alien creature. Ramsay will co-write the script with Rory Kinnear, and Scott Pictures has come aboard to finance.

Jane Got a Gun begins production in January, and Mobius will likely be next on Ramsay's schedule. Two very different movies from a unique director who seems to be hitting on all cylinders right now. [THR]
