Sure Shots: Elijah Wood; Joseph Ruben; Richard Madden

* Elijah Wood may not be as visible in hist post-Frodo Baggins career, but that doesn't mean he's slowed down in the least. He's actually making more low profile flicks, and now he's even starting his own production company called The Woodshed with Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller(Raze). Meanwhile he's still finding time for new flicks, and he's just signed on to star in Late Bloomer, the feature debut by Randall Einhorn, the director of Wood's FX channel series Wilfred. Based on a memoir by Ken Baker, the remarkable true story follows a man who discovers at the age of 30 that he hasn't yet gone through puberty, and after a medical procedure experiences it fully in a matter of weeks. Yikes. Sounds promising, and keeping with Wood's recent turn for offbeat indies.

* I'm surprised that no one has done a remake of Orson Welles' 1946 film noir The Stranger, but that will soon be changing. Joseph Ruben, who long ago directed the genre flick Sleeping with the Enemy, has been tapped to helm the film based on a script by Alanna Belak. Welles starred as an ex-Nazi who has changed his identity and become a small town prep school teacher, only to risk exposure when a War Crimes official tracks him down. Ruben hasn't done much of anything since 2004's The Forgotten, but he seems to be making a comeback as he's got a couple of projects on the way. [THR]

* Game of Thrones continues to be a fertile source for a new wave of leading men, and Richard Madden is the latest to make the jump to the big screen. Madden, who plays Robb Stark in the HBO hit series, will join Rebecca Hall in A Promise, the new period-piece from French director Patrice Leconte. Set in pre-WWI Germany, Madden will play a young engineer who falls in love with the wife of his wealthy boss. The two are forced apart by the war, but reunite nine years later. [Variety]
