Sure Shots: Sienna Miller; Nate Parker; 'From Up on Poppy Hill'

* Bennett Miller isn't holding back in following up his Oscar-nominated hit, Moneyball. He's gathering an impressive cast including Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo for the true-crime Olympic drama, Foxcatcher, and now he's added one more to the roster. Sienna Miller(Factory Girl) has the joined the film, playing the wife of John du Pont(Carell), a millionaire paranoid schizophrenic who ran an Olympic wrestling training facility in Pennsylvania. In 1996 he murdered wrestler David Schultz(Ruffalo), thinking he was part of a government conspiracy. Tatum plays Schultz's younger brother. The script comes from E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, who Miller worked with on Capote. [Deadline]

* I think Nate Parker is poised to be one of the top African-American actors in the country, and this year has seen him flex his dramatic muscles in a number of very different films. Already appearing in Red Tails, the financial thriller Arbitrage, and Spike Lee's Red Hook Summer, Parker has now signed on to star with Liam Neeson in Non-Stop. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra(Unknown), the film centers on an air marshall (Neeson, of course) forced to stop some sort of threat that takes place during an international flight. Parker will play a passenger who helps save the day. I originally compared it to Taken on a jet plane, but it really sounds like Passenger 57 meets Under Siege 2.[Variety]

* A couple of months ago we learned that Ron Howard, Gillian Anderson, Chris Noth, and Sarah Bolger would be part of the English voice cast for Studio Ghibli's From Up on Poppy Hill. Now the rest have been revealed with Jamie Lee Curtis, Beau Bridges, Christina Hendricks, Aubrey Plaza, Jeff Dunham, Isabelle Fuhrman, Bruce Dern, Emily Osment, Anton Yelchin, Alex Wolff, and Charlie Saxton joining. Directed by Goro Miyazaki and co-written by his father Hayao, the film is set in 1963 Yokohama just before Japan is set to host the 1964 Olympics, and follows a pair of high school teens who learn about love while trying to save their favorite building from being demolished in the name of progress.
