1st look at 'Black Nativity' with Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, and Forest Whitaker

After looking for awhile like it was never going to happen, Kasi Lemmons (Talk to Me) has completed work on her big screen adaptation of Langston Hughes' celebrated stageplay, Black Nativity. The holiday musical stars Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, and Mary J. Blige, and USA Today has revealed the first official photos.

The tune-filled family drama stars R&B singer Jacob Latimore in his first acting role, playing a street smart Baltimore teen named Langston, raised by a single mother (Hudson), and dropped off in Harlem to spend the holidays with his estranged grandparents (Whitaker and Bassett), Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs. Langston and the Reverend face a clashing of wills, but over time the boy comes to learn the true meaning of faith and family. Mary J. Blige, and her blond afro, plays a guardian angel to Langston. All of the major performers will do their own singing, with Terrence Blanchard and Raphael Saadiq working on the music.

Black Nativity arrives this November 27th.
