Alexis Bledel and Saoirse Ronan are hit-girls in the 'Violet & Daisy' trailer
After his screenplay for Precious earned him an Oscar victory, Geoffrey Fletcher set out on his directorial debut, the teen assassins film Violet & Daisy. Debuting more than two years ago at Toronto, the film has been gathering dust ever since, despite boasting the presence of Alexis Bledel and Saoirse Ronan as hired killers. Finally landing a brutal summer release date, a new trailer has been released which shows it could make for a decent guilty pleasure.
Looking like an odd mix of whimsical coming-of-age story and Tarantino-esque gunplay, the film follows 18-year old Daisy (Ronan) and her volatile partner Violet (Bledel), teen assassins who take on a number of jobs until they run into problems with a mysterious target played by James Gandolfini. It's worth a chuckle to see Danny Trejo aka Machete as an adviser rather than doing the wetwork himself. The tone is all over the place, and some of the more surreal elements come out of nowhere, but at least it never looks boring.
Violet & Daisy hits theaters on June 7th, where it'll look to take down Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's The Internship.
