Colin Firth, Emily Blunt, and Adam Sandler join 'Murder Mystery' with Charlize Theron
The surprise hit of last summer wasn't some big comic book flick, it was instead John Madden's endearing older-skewing comedy, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. After its success he quickly lined up Murder Mystery as his next film, with Charlize Theron coming aboard to star. After not hearing much about it since, it's just taken a major step forward with Colin Firth, Adam Sandler, and Emily Blunt signing on.
It's a reteaming of Firth and Blunt, who are currently starring together in Arthur Newman which just opened in theaters today. For Sandler, it's a rare opportunity to see him in a film where he might have to actually...I dunno...act or something? This won't be just another paid vacation like Grown Ups 2 likely was. Written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man), the Agatha Christie-style caper follows an American couple in Europe who witness a murder, only to find themselves implicated in the crime.
We know Blunt, Firth, and Theron will bring the goods, but it's been a long time since Sandler has been asked to do very much. Then again this is meant to be a comedy first and foremost, so maybe he'll fit right in. [THR]
