Hatchet swept across horror fans like a breath of fresh air in 2006. A killer with a creepy backstory chopping teens to bits in the woods is, of course, nothing new. The 80's were dominated by flicks like this but thanks to the Scream revolution in '96 boobs and blood were replaced by twists and sarcasm. Honestly the younger casual horror viewer was raised on sarcastic horror so it was, in a sense, new to them. After the success of the original came the inevitable sequel Hatchet 2, in true horror fashion the sequel was inferior to say the least and lacked everything that made the original so awesome...except for the boobs and blood that is, those things were definitely there. Now we get to find out if the series will redeem itself with it's third installment, a distinct possibility if this trailer is to be belived.
Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees in the late 80's Friday the 13th's) has always played poor Victor Crowley since the series began. Hatchet 2 added in Danielle Harris who played the adorable niece of not so adorable Micheal Myers in Halloween 4 & 5 as the heroine. Now we are adding on one of 80's blockbuster films most off the radar actors in Zack Galligan of Gremlins fame. I'm not sure what makes me think this film is back to the awesome of the original but something about it feels better than anything to do with Hatchet 2.
