New Trailer for 'Captain Phillips' Starring Tom Hanks

It's hard not to look at Paul Greengrass' Somali pirates drama Captain Phillips and not compare it to one of the best indie films of the year so far, Tobias Lindholm's A Hijacking. The two are basically flipsides of the same coin, with Greengrass' film boasting bigger stars and a factual component, but one thing they seem to have in common is an emphasis on human drama rather than the violence of a pirate assault.

The latest trailer for Captain Phillips emphasizes Greengrass' gift for blending tough, real world issues with suspenseful thrillers. Tom Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips, who in 2009 willingly gave himself up as a hostage to Somali pirates to ensure the safety of his crew.  Perhaps the greatest takeaway from the footage is that Greengrass is tackling concerns larger than just those aboard the ship.

Captain Phillips sets sail on October 11th, and if you're interested in A Hijacking (and you should be), check out the review here
