*UPDATE* Vin Diesel In Talks to Voice Groot in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

* UPDATE* Deadline now reports that Vin Diesel is in talks to voice Groot, so it looks like he was shooting straight earlier! "I am Groot!"

No actor relates to his fans better or more often than Vin Diesel. He's relied on them to help keep his Riddick franchise alive; he's kept them in the loop on all of his Fast & Furious plans; and ever since he first revealed that a meeting with Marvel was taking place, Diesel has been toying playfully with his followers on Facebook. At Comic-Con he said we'd learn about his Marvel role by the end of the month, and that never happened, but his latest update pretty flat out confirms he'll be voicing the Guardians of the Galaxy member known as Groot.

Diesel updated his cover photo, albeit briefly, to the above image of Groot, the plant-creature who makes up one of the two CG-animated characters on the team, the other being Rocket Raccoon. I've been speculating here for weeks that the best slot for Diesel would be to voice Groot, whose only verbal communication consists of "Groot!" or "I am Groot!".  Word has been that Marvel is seeking A-list voices for  'Rocket' and Groot, and Diesel definitely fits the bill. All he has to do is channel the booming voice he used in The Iron Giant and that would be perfect.

But Diesel's none-too-subtle clue comes with an eye to the hints he's dropped in the past that suggested he could play the android Vision, Ant-Man, or the villain Thanos, so it's probably a good idea to not get excited until there's a confirmation. Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't hit theaters until August 1st 2014.
