New Images and Plot Details from Woody Allen's 'Magic in the Moonlight'

Like clockwork Woody Allen has another European-set romantic comedy headed to theaters this summer. Magic in the Moonlight, which won't be debuting in Cannes like many of Allen's films have of late, takes place in 1920s France in the midst of the roaring jazz age. So what's up with that title? Midnight in Paris, To Rome with Love...these are obvious, but what does Magic in the Moonlight mean?

In EW's summer preview are a couple of new photos and a little bit of a plot update that fills in the blanks. Colin Firth and Emma Stone star in the film about an Englishman who is trying to expose a scam, a swindle that may have some mystical qualities to it...

Woody Allen Had kicked around the idea of a rom com about an Englishman (Colin Firth) who sets out to expose a phoney mystic (Emma Stone), only to end up falling for her. “I had it on a piece of notepaper in my drawer for ages,” Allen says. “I knew it was a good plot, but I kept seeing it as a contemporary thing and something about that just didn’t smell right to me. Then when it occured to me it could be set in the south of France in the 1920s, all of a sudden it just felt good.”

Also starring are Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Eileen Atkins, Jacki Weaver, and Erica Leerhsen. Magic in the Moonlight opens July 25th.
