Oscar Isaac Rumored for 'Star Wars: Episode VII'; Harrison Ford to Have Major Role
Secretive plans for Star Wars: Episode VII may be on the verge of being revealed, with many expecting official announcements to come on May 4th, aka Star Wars Day. Nobody knows for sure, though, and considering J.J. Abrams' tendency to hold tight to his secrets, rumors continue to swirl. The latest batch includes one new addition joining names that have been talked about for months.
Deadline reports that Abrams has a major table read set for tomorrow that will include the entire cast, which means that he knows who he'll be working with. This comes just as word is spreading that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac is up for a major role...or, at least that he WAS up for one. There seems to be some conflict on that as THR says he was in talks for a role but it was stopped due to Isaac's theatre commitments. Previous contenders John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers are still in the mix. There's an added twist as Boyega has dropped out of the Jesse Owens biopic, Race, possibly to free up his schedule? And then there's Zac Efron, whose name came up for a part some months back. While talking with an Australian site about his new comedy, Neighbors, Efron said there were "irons in the fire" in regards to Star Wars. Is the Force with Zac Efron on this one? Let's hope not.
Whoever ultimately joins will star alongside the returning Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford, with Han Solo said to have a "gigantic" role in the first film. What does that mean? Are the kids taking a back seat until the sequel? All we know is that the original trio have been spotted in London where filming will take place. Chances are they aren't just on a leisure trip.
