'Godzilla' Poised for $98M Debut Weekend

We don't normally track the box office around here until Sunday, but in a case like this it seems appropriate. Gareth Edwards was pretty apprehensive about us calling Godzilla a "blockbuster" in our interview, but after a $38M Friday night debut, the biggest opening day of 2014, the film is on track for a whopping $98M weekend. That beats the $95M opening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man 2's $91M. Overall the film has been well-received, scoring 73% on Rotten Tomatoes right now, and chances are it will do well overseas.

On the other hand, Disney's Million Dollar Arm bobbled the ball and only scored $3.4M on Friday.
