Simon Pegg is a Killer in Trailer for 'Kill Me Three Times'

Simon Pegg's a funny guy, but a stone cold killer? That's what Kriv Stenders' new film Kill Me Three Times wants us to buy into, and while the trailer has a ton of energy it looks like it rolled off the Smokin' Aces assembly line. Also starring Alice Braga, Teresa Palmer, Sullivan Stapleton, and Callvan Mulvey, Luke "the lesser" Hemsworth, and Bryan Brown, the film centers on a hitman (Pegg) who tries to cash in on a contract to kill a young woman. Wackiness ensues when it seems everybody in town got the message and try to kill her first.

The bullets and one-liners fly fast and furious but this trailer is pretty forgettable. Maybe that's why the film has yet to gain a release date. Check out the Kill Me Three Times trailer below.

Sure Shots: Gael Garcia Bernal; Al Pacino; Chris O'Dowd

* Fresh off what many are calling his finest performance in the Chilean political drama, No, Gael Garcia Bernal is hooking back up with its producers for a film that will take him to Argentina. He and Alice Braga (City of God) will star in El Ardor, which follows a mysterious figure who emerges from the Argentinian rainforest to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a farmer, murdered by mercenaries who then took over his property. Written and directed by Pablo Frendrick, the film is being described as a modern day Western. [THR]

* Continuing what has been a fascinating recent run of projects, David Gordon Green is already lining up his next project to follow-up Prince Avalanche and the recently-completed Southern drama, Joe. He'll co-write and direct Manglehorn, and he's targeting Al Pacino as a potential star. If he comes aboard, Pacino would play an ex-con who 40 years earlier had given up the woman he loves for a "big job", and now lives a hermetic existence in a small town. After a dramatic attempt to start over, a terrifying moment exposes him as a man with a very dark past. [Deadline]

* Chris O'Dowd is set to join his Girls co-star Adam Driver in Coward, a new comedy from Ceremony director, Max Winkler. Set in the 18th century, Driver plays a nobleman who chickens out of a duel by hiring a criminal (O'Dowd) to take his place. When the criminal wins, he goes on a hot streak of victories until he completely assumes the nobleman's identity. [TheWrap]

Sullivan Stapleton, Abbie Cornish, Alice Braga, and Ben Mendelsohn to star in 'Kill Me Three Times'

Unlike many others, I never really found the redeeming value of Greg McLean's breakout horror hit, Wolf Creek. While certainly stylish and extremely grim, it also just felt sort of pointless. So when talk began that he was prepping a sequel, it didn't really register as much of a big deal. While it appears that film may be on indefinite hold for a variety of reasons, McLean has rounded up one heck of a cast for his next project, a thriller titled Kill Me Three Times.

ScreenDaily(via ThePlaylist) reports that Abbie Cornish, Alice Braga, Ben Mendelsohn, and Sullivan Stapleton will star in the film, with Braga's character the centerpiece of three tales of blackmail, revenge, and murder in the surfing town of Eagle's Nest. Despite a few recent bumps in the road, Cornish is still one of the hottest actresses around, while Braga is due to see her stock rise when On the Road opens. Mendelsohn and Stapleton, both Animal Kingdom alums, have some major projects on the way as well. Mendelsohn will appear in Killing Them Softly(formerly Cogan's Trade), while Stapleton will star in 300: Battle of Artemisia.

Production kicks off later this year, likely for release in 2013.

Trailer Time: The Rite, starring Anthony Hopkins

The Rite is based on Matt Baglio's book, The Making of a Modern Day Exorcist, a true accounting of his time in an exorcism seminar held by the Vatican. Anthony Hopkins looks like he's woken up from the stupor he was during The Wolfman, as he's starring as an older, somewhat peculiar priest who begins teaching the younger, skeptical student about the dark side of his faith.

I've had my fill of these exorcism flicks. They always feature the guy who's grown disillusioned and needs some sort of catalyzing event to snap him back.  Seen it before, in particular in the very good The Last Exorcism earlier this year.  So I'm not all that excited by this one, even with a great supporting cast feature Toby Jones(The Mist), Alice Braga(Predators) and Ciaran Hinds(Race to Witch Mountain).

The Rite is set to hit theaters on January 28th, 2011.
