First Trailer for Horror 'Jessabelle' Starring Mark Webber and Sarah Snook

When Jason Blum and the gang over at Blumhouse put their muscle behind a horror project, it's probably a good idea to pay attention. Nobody has mastered the art of the low-budget horror better than them, with the vast majority of their films raking in big bucks with very little investment. And now Blum has another horror on the way in Jessabelle, in hopes that it can match the success of Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious, and more.

Directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw 3D) with a script by Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911) the film stars Sarah Snook and Mark Webber in the story of a woman returned to her Louisiana home to recuperate after an accident leaves her unable to walk. While there she begins to encounter a long-tormented spirit that will make her wish she had stayed at a hotel.

Also starring Larisa Oleynik (The Secret World of Alex Mack represent!!) and Joelle Carter (High Fidelity), Jessabelle haunts theaters August 29th.

Jessica Alba Lifts 'The Veil'; Helen Mirren is 'The Golden Lady'; 'Goosebumps' Adds Dylan Minnette

* Jessica Alba and Thomas Jane will star in The Veil, a supernatural thriller with some interesting talent behind the camera. Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum) wrote the screenplay with Phil Joanou (Gridiron Gang) directing the story which begins "30 years ago, when members of a religious cult known as Heaven's Veil take their own lives. The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl, who returns to the compound with a documentary crew as an adult. They soon discover something that is far more terrifying than anything they could have imagined." Alba's been keeping plenty busy and has the teen assassin film Barely Lethal coming up, plus rom-com How to Make Love Like an Englishman, and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Jane gets it on with Shailene Woodley in White Bird in a Blizzard, and co-stars with John Cusack in Drive Hard. [THR]

* Here's one to keep an eye on as a potential Oscars favorite. Helen Mirren is in early talks to star in The Golden Lady, an art world drama directed by My Week with Marilyn's Simon Curtis. Mirren would play real life figure Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who mounted a successful legal campaign to reclaim priceless pieces of art stolen from her family by the Nazis.  Among these were a collection by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, which included the Portrait Of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, sold just a few years ago for $135M. [DailyMail]

* With Jack Black already confirmed to play author R.L. Stine in an adaptation of his Goosebumps series, his two young co-stars have now been found. Dylan Minnette, most recently seen in Prisoners, and Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green) have come aboard the film to be directed by Rob Letterman. Minnette will play "Zach Cooper, who moves with his family move from NY to to the idyllic town of Greendale, MD, where his secretive new neighbor turns out to be author R.L. Stine (Black). When the many, many demons in Stine’s mind are set free by Slappy, a demonic ventriloquist’s dummy, it’s up to Zach and Stine’s niece Hannah (Odeya Rush) to put the evil genies back in the bottle." Ed Helms to Star as Frank Drebin in 'The Naked Gun' Reboot

When Leslie Nielsen passed away in 2010 he left behind a strong body of work making people laugh for a lot of years. And while he'll of course be remembered for Airplane! ("Don't call me Shirley."), what most people are going to recall first is The Naked Gun, and his role as moronic but dogged detective Sgt. Frank Drebin. Nielsen starred in three movies of varying quality, but the first was always the best, and because it was so good (il)logic says it needs to be remade.

Paramount Pictures is planning to remake The Naked Gun, and have set Ed Helms to try and fill Nielsen's shoes as Drebin. Good luck with that. The film is being written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, whose Reno 911! was clearly inspired by Police Squad!, the 1982 TV series that spawned The Naked Gun flicks.

The 1980s were a high point for spoof films, and The Naked Gun was one of the best, although I'd probably put Top Secret! (everything had a friggin' exclamation point back then) just ahead of it. Nielsen was never more at home than as Drebin, with his deadpan delivery and impeccable grasp of physical comedy, he remained hilarious even as the trilogy lost some of its steam. Obviously, this remake sounds like a terrible idea and I don't envy Helms or the writers because this thing is going to get scrutinized to death, as well it should. [Variety]

'Reno 911' creator to direct that 'Baywatch' movie you've always wanted

Baywatch has been the target of ridicule pretty consistently since it started back in 1989, and even now that it's been gone for over a decade it's still the butt of jokes. Single-handedly responsible for keeping "The Hoff" David Hasselhoff in the public eye far longer than he deserves, Baywatch is probably best known for hot chicks in now-iconic red bathing suits, hot chicks slow motion running along sandy beaches, and Pamela Anderson while she was still a hot chick. The show was an international hit for some weird reason, and Paramount has been trying forever to get a feature film off the ground. Well now they've made the most significant step towards it happening.

Robert Ben Garant, creator of the awesome Comedy Central cop show Reno 911, has been brought on to direct the Baywatch flick nobody in their right mind was asking for. Who wants this? Nicole Eggert? Peter Tolan wrote the last draft of the script, but Garant is also a semi-accomplished screenwriter having written the Night at the Museum flicks and Herbie: Fully Loaded. Remember that turd?  Garant last directed the underrated Reno 911: Miami(featuring a great Dwayne Johnson cameo) and the horrible Balls of Fury.

Even if all those old rumors of Justin Timberlake circling the lead role turn out to be true, a Baywatch movie is still a bad idea.   Garant's a solid enough filmmaker, but not even he can make Baywatch interesting unless it decides to be a total parody.[Vulture]
