The Park is Open in First Trailer for 'Jurassic World' starring Chris Pratt

"Remember, if something chases you...run". Twenty-two years after Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park wowed audiences and captured our imagination by taking us to a place where dinosaurs could really exist, Universal is hoping to recapture that feeling with Jurassic World. The interesting thing about it is the route they've chosen to take, hiring indie director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) to take the franchise into the future. How did he do? While we won't know until next summer, the first trailer suggests he's headed in the right direction.

Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Judy Greer, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Jake Johnson, Irrfan Khan, and Omar Sy, Jurassic World has a killer cast and a killer bunch of dinosaurs running roughshod over the newly-opened theme park. Of course it all starts when humans begin tinkering with Mother Nature, creating the first "genetically modified hybrid" that is more than anybody was prepared to handle. While the early images are clearly meant to evoke the spirit of Spielberg's films, later it begins to resemble the CGI madness of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which makes Jurassic World shares the same screenwriters.

Jurassic World opens June 12th 2015.

Red Band Trailer for 'Let's Be Cops' Hits the Street

20th Century Fox is hoping they can capture some of the magic they've found on New Girl and bring it to the silver screen with the R-rated comedy Let's Be Cops. New Girl stars Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. lead what looks to be a silly buddy comedy about two friends who dress up as cops and, addicted to the power and fame it brings, decide to live it up. That is until they get in the middle of an actual crime involving dirty cops and gangsters, and must stumble their way out of the mess.

The latest red band trailer suggests a mindless and raunchy romp with a terrific supporting cast of Rob Riggle (22 Jump Street), Keegan-Michael Key, Andy Garcia, James D'Arcy, and Nina Dobrev. Johnson's been steadily building up indie cred with Safety Not Guaranteed and Drinking Buddies, but will that carry over into something as wildly different as this? Directed by Luke Greenfield, Let's Be Cops opens August 13th.

Red Band Trailer for 'Let's Be Cops' Starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr.

When Jake Johnson starred in the pilot episode of Fox sitcom, New Girl, one of his co-stars was Damon Wayans Jr. Wayans split before the second episode and went off to star in Happy Endings until that show got cancelled. Wayans has since returned to New Girl, but that's not the only place we'll get to see him and Johnson pair up. The two are starring in this summer's buddy comedy, Let's Be Cops, and the first red band trailer for it has hit the streets.

Directed by Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door), the film gives both guys a chance to act ridiculous as two friends dressed as cops who are mistaken for real police. They take full advantage of the respect wearing blue earns them until they run into some genuine trouble.

Let's Be Cops opens August 13th.

Review: 'The Pretty One' Starring Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnson

Are there any movies about twins or doppelgangers that aren't creepy in some way? Maybe there are but it's not many, and their explorations of identity usually go down a dark path of ugly self-discovery. Even a sweet and somewhat cutesy rom-com like The Pretty One must overcome a gruesome premise before it heads into the light, but it gets plenty of help by Zoe Kazan's engaging lead performance.

Kazan pulls double-duty as twin sisters Audrey and Laurel. Audrey is "the pretty one"; outgoing, extroverted, glamorous, and living an exciting life in the big city. Laurel is basically her polar opposite; a mousy, poorly-dressed homebody who still lives with their Dad (John Carroll Lynch), helping him paint forgeries of famous paintings. While the sisters have a strong relationship, family gatherings prove awkward, serving to only highlight the vast differences between them. The boy next door, who Laurel has given her virginity to, still has eyes for Audrey. Laurel has resigned herself to a life of taking care of their dad, who has never quite gotten over the death of their mother.

Briefly losing its quirky edges, things get ugly after Audrey decides to rescue Laurel from her dull existence and take her back to the city, which sort of resembles a storybook version of Los Angeles. A make-over attempt goes awry when Laurel, lacking any true identity of her own, seeks out a look perfectly matching Audrey's. And, rather conveniently, it's just then that a terrible car accident kills Audrey, leaving Laurel in a coma. Upon awakening, Laurel learns that everyone thinks she's Audrey. Making the questionable decision to attend her own funeral; the lack of genuine emotion by the handful of attendees (including her father), forces Audrey to take the deception further. Leaving everything and everyone behind, she moves into Laurel's home and takes over her life. That means fending off the married guy (Ron Livingston) she's been having an affair with, and falling for Basil (Jake Johnson), the tenant Laurel apparently despised.

While the ease with which Laurel swaps identities is worryingly unbelievable, the film soon settles into a comfortable, romantic groove thanks to the unique chemistry between Kazan and Johnson. Kazan in particular is as good here as she was in Ruby Sparks, in which she played another character with a slippery personality. Here she weighs with a delicate balance Laurel's fear of an unfamiliar world, her pain over losing a beloved sister, and excitement over her new life, even if it isn't truly hers.  Johnson, who has been on an indie hot streak with Safety not Guaranteed and Drinking Buddies, is endlessly likable as Basil. Underneath his thick beard, slacker attitude, and apparent body odor is a genuinely caring guy who can't seem to figure out why Audrey suddenly is interested in him.

Small in scope and awkward in tone, The Pretty One doesn't always marry up its melancholic side with the quirkier elements. When the situation starts getting serious again during a bittersweet latter stage, it’s tough to overlook just how screwed up the situation is and how many people have been hurt. First-time writer/director Jenée LaMarque doesn't fully deal with the gravity of Laurel's actions, but she has a great ear for dialogue and an eye for style. Plus, she's clearly capable of pulling emotive performances from her actors, a gift that will no doubt carry her far. Like its lead character, The Pretty One is a little unstable even as its charms are irresistible.

Double the Zoe Kazan in Trailer for 'The Pretty One'

Jake Johnson and Zoe Kazan are two of today's rising stars, breaking out from the indie scene on TV and the big screen. Johnson can be seen every week on New Girl and will appear in Neighbors and Jurassic World, while Kazan created her own opportunity recently with Ruby Sparks. Now they'll come together for The Pretty One, a comedy about death and mistaken identity.

The first trailer for The Pretty One has been released, and for a film with a dark premise it seems pretty funny. Kazan pulls double duty as twins Audrey and Laurel. Audrey is the pretty, outgoing one; while Laurel is the introvert. When Audrey dies, Laurel assumes her sister's big city life until she falls in love with her neighbor, played by Johnson. Johnson's Drinking Buddies co-star Ron Livingston plays one of Audrey's exes.

Written and directed by Jenée LaMarque, The Pretty One opens in limited release on February 7th.

Ty Simpkins of 'Iron Man 3' will Lead 'Jurassic World'; Jake Johnson May Join Him

At only 12 years old, Ty Simpkins has been busier and starred in more hit films than most actors twice his age. He got his start in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds; had a small but important part in Little Children opposite Kate Winslet; has been trapped in "The Further" for both of James Wan's Insidious horrors; and most recently he bantered with Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 3. Not too shabby, and now he's even got a franchise to call his own....well, he may have to share top billing with a few dinosaurs.

According to Deadline, Simpkins has won the lead role in Jurassic World, which Spielberg is producing and Colin Trevorrow will be directing. No details on his character are available as the plot is mostly undercover, but it's a sure sign that Universal is moving in an entirely new direction. Bryce Dallas Howard is the only other cast member confirmed at this point, but there are rumors of Trevorrow's Safety Not Guaranteed star Jake Johnson being "in the mix". David Oyelowo has been mentioned previously as well, although there is nothing confirmed.

I guess this pretty much kills any hope of Joseph Mazzello coming back? Jurassic World opens its doors on June 12th 2015.

First Trailer For 'Drinking Buddies', Starring Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, And Anna Kendrick

The name on every critic's lips by the end of this year's SXSW was Joe Swanberg, the indie director who had been one of the stalwarts of the indie "mumblecore" movement with films like LOL and Hannah Takes the Stairs. Like his indie colleagues the Duplass Brothers and Lynn Shelton, he eventually began to branch out, drawing in bigger stars while keeping the same character-driven aesthetic, and that seems to be what had people responding to his latest film, the relationship comedy Drinking Buddies.

Magnolia has released the first trailer, and it looks like a real charmer with great comic chemistry between stars Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson. They play best friends and drinking pals who begin to see romantic potential in one another, but it's complicated due to their other relationships. There are a lot of great little moments sprinkled throughout, and of course plenty of frosty beverages get tossed back. The cast is rounded out by Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston, who also appear in top form. Wilde's been in need of a juicy lead role for awhile, and Johnson was terrific in Safety Not Guaranteed. He's apparently good in New Girl, also, but that's one of those shows I'll never watch.

Drinking Buddies hits ITunes on July 25th before a theatrical release on August 23rd.

Sure Shots: Tim Miller; Jeffrey Dean Morgan; Jake Johnson

* You probably don't recognize the name Tim Miller, but the VFX wiz has been attached to a number of major projects of late. Miller not only did the awesome opening sequence for David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, he's also set to direct the Deadpool feature film if it ever gets off the ground. That's not all, as he's got an adaptation of the comic book series, Gravel, and co-directing Fincher's CG-animated The Goon. Now he's added one more film to his busy slate, signing on to direct Artemis, an action thriller set in outer space. The script is written by Andrew Nobel (Tunnels), but no further details are known at this point.  [Variety]

* Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Magic City) has joined Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell in Solace, the long-developing thriller directed by Afonso Poyart. He'll play an FBI agent in the film about a doctor (Hopkins) with psychic abilities drawn into a serial killer case where the murderer (Farrell) is equally gifted. Filming begins in May, with Peter Morgan (The Queen) writing the latest draft of the script. [THR]

* I've never seen a single moment of Fox sitcom, New Girl, but I know that Jake Johnson is probably too good for it. He was great in last summer's sci-fi/romance Safety Not Guaranteed, and now he's headed back to the big screen in the buddy comedy, Let's Be Cops. He'll re-team with Damon Wayans Jr., who was in the New Girl pilot before leaving to star in ABC's Happy Endings. Luke Greenfield (The Girl Next Door) co-wrote the script with Nick Thomas and will direct the film about two best friends who pretend to be cops, only to get mixed up with a real life gangster.
