Salma Hayek Shows Off Her Guns in Action-Packed 'Everly' Trailer

If you're someone who likes to watch extremely hot women kick a lot of ass and fire big guns, then Everly is what you've been waiting for. Directed by Joe Lynch, this balls to the wall action flick stars Salma Hayek as a prostitute who turns on her boyfriend, a yakuza boss, and naturally becomes a target for assassination. Trapped in her apartment, she must overcome wave after wave of hired killers using every weapon at her disposal.

Remember when this was going to star Kate Hudson? That might've been cool but Hudson can't bring it like Hayek can.

So it's kind of like The Raid only much sexier. Everly hits VOD on January 23rd and goes into theaters February 27th. Check out the new trailer below!

Salma Hayek goes on a Rampage in New Trailer for 'Everly'

Salma Hayek's combination of stunning beauty and toughness has been her calling card for a lot of years now, so seeing her as the badass lead in a action flick like Everly isn't much of a stretch. She's not like some other actors who turn to this kind of film to revitalize their careers; this is exactly what she's good at, and the latest trailer shows just good she is at playing an unstoppable killing machine.

Directed by Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom), the film has Hayek as the title character; a desperate woman who must fend off wave after wave of assassins sent by her ex, who happens to be a dangerous yakuza boss. The catch to this one is that it basically takes place in one location, so as long as it doesn't get tiresome watching her lay waste to hordes of enemies this should be pretty amazing in a way similar to The Raid.

Everly is expected to open in 2015 but for now there's no release date.

It'll be Salma Hayek, not Kate Hudson, battling waves of assassins in 'Everly'

More than a year ago it was looking like Kate Hudson would make an interesting career swerve by taking on the lead role in Everly, a non-stop action film from The Knights of Badassdom director, Joe Lynch. The script by Yale Hannon turned up on the Black List and has been touted for its absurd levels of violence, making this one of the more interesting films on the horizon. But the film vanished from radars, and now that it has resurfaced Hudson is apparently out, replaced by Salma Hayek.

The conceit of the story is pretty clever, following a hard luck woman who must fend off wave after wave of assassins sent by her ex-lover, a dangerous mob boss. While that sounds like it has some cool The Raid: Redemption-style potential, the camera never leaves the apartment where Everly is being attacked, making it a slightly expanded "single-set" brawler with a female heroine. Yes, this sounds awesome, although personally I wish Hudson had stuck around.

Hayek will be seen this summer in Grown Ups 2, which is around the same time Everly will begin filming in Serbia.[Deadline]

Kate Hudson turns action star with 'Everly'

If there's any actress whose career could use a fresh coat of paint, it's Kate Hudson's. After a seemingly endless run of bad romantic comedies that seemed specifically designed to set women back decades, I thought she had maybe turned a corner with a devastating performance in The Killer Inside Me. Then came Something Borrowed and I closed the book on that idea.  But there may be hope yet, as she's signed on to star in Everly, an action vehicle from director Joe Lynch(Knights of Badassdom)

Based on an idea by Lynch and written by Yale Hannon, I get the feeling this film might be more comedic than it appears. Hudson will play a hard luck woman trapped in her apartment fending off waves of assassins sent by her ex, who just happens to be a mob boss. Hannon's script was recently featured on the Black List as one of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.

I'm not sure when this will get off the ground, but for the first time in a long time there's reason to look forward to a Kate Hudson film. [Variety]
