Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick Join 'Mr. Right'; Melissa George Leads 'The Insect King'

* Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick together in a film penned by Chronicle screenwriter Max Landis? Yes, please. The duo will star in Mr. Right, directed by Paco Cabezas (Tokarev) and following "a woman whose bad luck streak at finding lasting love seems to end when she meets Mr. Right. That’s until she discovers he is a reformed hit man. When his dark past catches up, their fledgling relationship is tested as they try to save one another." This sounds like something that would have starred David Duchovny and Tea Leoni like a decade ago, but maybe there's more to it than the logline suggests. [Deadline]

* The lovely Melissa George (30 Days of Night, The Good Wife) will star in The Insect King, and no it's not as horrific as it sounds. The coming-of-age drama written and directed by Priscilla Cameron follows a 13-year-old boy in competition with his father for the affection of an exotic 40-year-old woman. Taika Waititi (Eagle vs. Shark) and Sophie Lowe (Adore) co-star. [Deadline]

'Chronicle 2' Happening but Without Max Landis or Josh Trank

Chronicle was more than just a surprise hit when it came out last year, it was a shot in the arm to the comic book movie genre and launched the careers of director Josh Trank, writer Max Landis, and star Dane DeHaan. Unsurprisingly, Fox ordered up a sequel pretty quickly, but as everybody moved on to other projects it seemed like Chronicle 2 took a backseat. Last we'd heard, Fox wasn't really a fan of Landis' screenplay, and wanted to go in a different direction. Now the always-candid Landis has taken to Twitter and revealed he's been off the project for some time, and that Trank was never fully on board...

" I've been off Chronicle 2 for months now. Fox had a different direction they wanted to take the series, Josh was never attached."

"Chronicle 2 is still probably happening, just not with my involvement as of now. It's a bummer, but there are no real hard feelings."

Landis is likely right that Fox will push ahead, but this has to take a lot of steam out of the project, which was successful largely because of the talent behind the camera. Landis has plenty to do, though, as he has a Frankenstein film with Daniel Radcliffe on the way, plus his directorial debut, Me Him Her.

Mark Wahlberg and Jonah Hill in early talks for action-comedy, Good Time Gang

I have a hard time accepting Jonah Hill as anything other than your typical sex-obsessed comedy sidekick, but it's something I'm going to have to get used to. He'll be wearing his action shoes in the upcoming remake of 21 Jump Street, although you have to expect it'll lean more heavily towards jokes than shoot outs. However, another film he's got lined up will be just the opposite, and he'll get to partner up with somebody who is no stranger to gun fights and car chases.

The LA Times reports that Hill isin very early talks to join the battle-tested Mark Wahlberg in Good Time Gang, an action comedy from writer Max Landis(son of director John Landis). Described as a "new spin" on the Lethal Weapon formula, Hill and Wahlberg will play two fun loving mercenaries who take on a serious case involving a terrorist, only to discover that one of them is related to the target.

Wahlberg struck the perfect balance of violence and humor in The Other Guys last year, no easy feat considering he had Will Ferrell as a partner. Talks are still very early at this point, so we'll have to wait and see if Wahlberg and Hill can find that same magic.
