Spider-Man Trilogy has it's Director! And it's...wait, Trilogy??!?

Last week, the rumor was that Marc Webb, the director behind (500) Days of Summer was the man Sony was leaning towards to spark new life in their vaunted Spider-Man franchise. Well, consider that a rumor no more. It has now been confirmed, via a press release from Sony, that Webb is the man to lead the web slinger into a whole new neighborhood. Or maybe three neighborhoods. Vulture is reporting that Webb is actually being tapped to direct an entire Spider-Man trilogy.

A trilogy gives the relatively newcomer director, who's quirky romantic comedy earned him rave reviews(not just from me!!) with critics, and pushed fresh perspective on the genre. The hope is that he can do the same with Spider-Man, a franchise desperately in need of a youth injection.

My guess? It won't be long before we start seeing the Joseph Gordon-Leavitt as Peter Parker rumors flying around. Those who think the actor has gone a little artsy with Brick, (500) Days, and The Lookout, need look no further than the actor's turn as Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The guy can pretty much do anything he sets his brain to.
