Marvel Preps Runaways! Nick & Norah Director to Helm!

Forget Captain America, Iron Man,  Thor...whatever. As much as I'm looking forward to their films, I've never been a big fan of any of those characters. But Brian K. Vaughn's The Runaways? Yeah, now that's somethin' worth gettin' excited over.

Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios is keen to add The Runaways to their big screen slate, and are already in negotitations with Peter Sollett to direct the project.  Sollett's most recent work was the 2008 teen comedy, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings. That film was in my top 10 of that year, perfectly capturing the free flowing feel of running the streets late at night with your buddies and the girl of your dreams. A very similar vibe runs through The Runaways, so it could be a perfect fit.

The Runaways is about a group of teens(and one pre-adolescent) who discover that their parents are a cabal of supervillains known as The Pride. The kids, who all have various powers of their own, decide to run away from home rather than grow up to be like their parents. They encounter numerous obstacles, including being hunted by The Pride; acquire a telepathic dinosaur as a pet, and live in the La Brea tarpits.

The comic was created by superstar writer Brian K. Vaughn(Lost) and drawn by Adrian Alphona. This is only the first of many Vaughn projects being developed for the big screen. New Line is currently developing the creator's seminal work, Y: The Last Man, as well as his politcal superhero thriller, Ex Machina.
