The Sunday Drive: 4/25/10

3. The Losers
Director Sylvain White knew exactly what The Losers was supposed to be: loud, explosive, hilarious, and way too cool for it's own good. Stripping off the best elements of Andy Diggle's 2003 comic book series, The Losers has it's laser scope aimed squarely at your funny bone, and while the PG-13 rating can be a drag at times there's no shortage of rapid fire action delivered by a recognizable cast of fanboy favorites.

2. The Secret in Their Eyes
The difference between Juan Jose Campanella's latest thriller and almost any other is that it combines so many seemingly disparate elements and winds them into taut, cohesive yarn. Focusing on one former investigator's coming to grips with the murder case that changed his life and set him on his current path.

1. Kick-Ass
So maybe it can't knock out the box office but it can still kick every other movie's ass. It's deliberately offensive, cynical, and comically brutal at times, and that's exactly the best part! Definitely not for the kiddies and certainly not for the weak of heart.

DVD Pick of the Week: The Young Victoria
No, it's not Avatar. As great as this epic was, is there anybody who doesn't know everything there is to know about it? Better to suggest something most people haven't had the chance to see, which is Emily Blunt's passionate performance in The Young Victoria. Delving into the youthful queen's reign, thrust into the role suddenly, she finds herself constantly at odds with outside forces looking to usurp her authority. All the while she struggles to maintain a relationship with her distant love, Prince Albert, who matches her vivaciousness with a quiet resolve.
