Footloose remake rounds out its Cast!

Back in April we found out that Craig Brewer(Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) would be tackling another musically inspired film, this time a remake of 1984's Footloose. A search for an actor to play the lead role of Ren McCormack, made famous by Kevin Bacon, has led to both Zac Efron and Chace Crawford being attached at one time. Both actors dropped out, and a whole new round of casting began.

Today Paramount has announced via a press release that casting has concluded, with a couple of surprises.  Rather than going for a young household name, Paramount decided on Kenny Wormwald to take on the pivotal role of Ren. Wormwald, a relative unknown, has been a background dancer for a couple of movies in the past, notably You Got Served and Clerks 2. Clerks 2? What scene exactly? Doesn't involve a goat, does it?

Singer and Dancing with the Stars alum Julianne Hough has been attached to play the role of Ariel for some time, but now she's confirmed. Joining her will be Dennis Quaid, as the music-hating Reverend Moore.

Footloose is set to dance into theaters on April 1, 2011.
