Karate Kid sequel on the way!

After The Karate Kid opened a can of whoop ass on The A-Team this weekend to the tune of $56M, it was pretty much a no-brainer that a sequel would be announced shortly thereafter. Well, here ya go. Deadline has confirmed that Columbia Pictures are already in talks with screenwriters to hammer out plans for the film.

It's unlikely that the sequel will follow the path of the 1986 sequel, which saw Mr. Miyagi and Daniel travelling to Okinawa, Japan. Producer Ed Zwart has previously stated that he would prefer an original tale this time around.

Having Dre(Jaden Smith) and Mr. Han(Jackie Chan) go to yet another foreign land doesn't make much sense. Then again you could always have them return to America, so that this time it's Han who experiences the culture shock. The question I have is if they'll ditch Taraji P. Henson's character in order to free Dre up for some travel abroad. We shall see.
