Disney Preps Live-Action Tinkerbell movie; Elizabeth Banks to Star

I guess two recent computer animted films just weren't enough, as Disney is preparing to unleash a live-action film featuring the mischievous Tinkerbell into theaters. The project is being produced by McG, Adam Shankman, and Jennifer Gibbot, with Elizabeth Banks(Zack and Miri Make a Porno) set to star as the magical fairy. Banks is developing the project herself through her production company, Brownstone Productions.

Tinkerbell is best known for her part in Peter Pan, particularly the 1950s Disney classic. She's been portrayed on film twice, first by Julia Roberts in 1991's Hook, and then by the ultra sexy Ludivine Sagnier in 2003's Peter Pan. If you haven't seen that version of the story, do yourself a favor and check it out. It was severely slept on at the time.

No word yet on who will direct, but I wouldn't be surprised if McG or Banks herself took it on. This sounds like Disney reaching for another Enchanted, but depending on how the cast rounds out it could be worth a look.
