DJ Caruso confirmed as Preacher director?

After losing out on Sam Mendes(over some thing called James Bond? Never heard of it.) and then reportedly an unknown director being attached, the biggest name swirling around the Preacher directing gig has been DJ Caruso.  Whether or not Columbia confirmed him was said to have something to do with how Caruso's I Am Number Four panned out this weekend, and while the reviews have been generally negative, it opened up to a decent box office. Now Caruso has tweeted that he's locked up the Preacher gig and seems pretty amped over it...

"My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty fucking pumped!"

Dude, chill! Actually he's got plenty of reason to be jazzed over this, as Preacher is one of the most acclaimed comic book series of all time. Created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher is the uber violent, supernatural story of an ex-Preacher named Jesse Custer, who after seeing his congregation destroyed and himself posessed by a morally ambiguous creature, goes off to literally find God. He's joined in his quest by his girlfriend and an Irish vampire named Cassidy.  Preacher ran for 75 issues from 1995-2000.

While I think Preacher is best served as a cable mini-series, I can't deny I'm pretty psyched to see this get off the ground. What do you think? Is DJ Caruso a good choice to direct Preacher? Or do you have somebody else in mind?
