Trailer Time: Atlas Shrugged

I'll try to leave my opinions on those who follow the "principles" of Ayn Rand out of the equation(principles she herself abandoned late in life), and focus purely on the unlikely trailer for Atlas Shrugged, based on her controversial 1957 novel.  "Unlikely" in that this time a year ago it didn't look the film would ever get off the ground.  In danger of losing the rights, producer John Aglialoro had to get the movie up and completed in a matter of weeks.  Within two weeks of shooting he shit canned his original director, Stephen Polk, and replaced him with Paul Johansson, who would also be starring. Sounded like a recipe for disaster.

Whether or not it's a turd nugget remains to be seen, but the movie is finished and now there's also a trailer. Surprisingly it doesn't look all that bad in terms of production values, and there are even a few recognizable faces. It remains to be seen how much of Rand's massive story had to be sliced out, but this is only the first leg of a planned trilogy.  The problem with the trailer is that if you know nothing about what Atlas Shrugged is about, then you're going to be in a complete fog. It doesn't do such a good job of getting the plot out there, and it looks like a bunch of stuffy people arguing business philosophy back and forth. Not a recipe for excitement.

The film is due to be released on April 15th, which is the day taxes are due in this country. I suppose that's their way of making some ham-fisted statement about the government. I'll be curious to see if this movie plays anywhere other than at Tea Party rallys or in Rand Paul's basement.  D'oh, there I go injecting my opinion.  Check out the trailer below!
