Trailer Time: Detention, starring Josh Hutcherson and Dane Cook
Y'know how you can tell Detention was written and directed by Joseph Kahn, the director of Torque? Because there's a completely forced joke about the film at the beginning of this trailer, and nobody in their right mind is tryin' to remember Torque. Period. Otherwise, Kahn looks like he's scored a potential spoiler in the battle for teen slasher supremacy. Not that it's really a fair fight. If the first half of this movie reminds you of Scream 4, then the second half will look like the most completely effed up version of The Breakfast Club you'll ever see.
No need to rewatch it. I've already done it three times, and yes that was a spaceship you saw in the midst of all that madness. Perhaps calling this a "slasher" isn't doing Detention justice. Quoting MTV, who first broke the trailer...
"Detention" tells the story of the senior class at Grizzly Lake high school. The road to graduation is never an easy one, but it's further complicated for these students by the arrival of a slasher movie killer who has seemingly come to life. The only ones who can stop the killer are a handful of students, but they'll have to cut out of detention if they're to stand a chance at saving the world.
Josh Hutcherson(The Kids Are All Right) appears to be the lead, joined by Shanley Caswell, Spencer Locke, Aaron David Johnson, Walter Perez, Erica Shaffer, Parker Bagley, Alison Woods, and Dane Cook as the school principal(at least he appears to be the principal). Detention will premier later this month at SXSW, and hopefully it impresses enough to warrant a national release.
