Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim has a leading man in Charlie Hunnam

Most people will probably recognize Charlie Hunnam as Jax Teller in FX's motorcycle gang series, Sons of Anarchy. I've never seen it, but I've been a fan of Hunnam's ever since he played the good looking British kid in Judd Apatow's awesome series, Undeclared. He was also pretty good in Green Street Hooligans as a thuggish member of a football firm. Just do yourself a favor and don't watch the sequel. But his biggest gig is yet to come, as Deadline is reporting that Hunnam will be the leading man in Guillermo Del Toro's big monster flick, Pacific Rim.

You might recall that Del Toro took over the film when his At the Mountains of Madness hit the skids. Scripted by Travis Beacham, it covers a future where giant monsters threaten to destroy the Earth. In order to survive, the people band together and use fantastic futuristic weaponry and giant robots to combat the threat. Hunnam's role is unclear, but THR says that it may be that of a pilot of one of the mech's used to battle the creatures.

The plan is for production to begin in September, with a possible summer 2013 release date, just in time for the blockbuster season. This will be Del Toro's first directing gig since 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
