More Affleck! Big Ben signs on to direct American remake of Tell No One!

A lot of people are huge fans of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, A Prophet, The Secret In Their Eyes, Let the Right One In..whatever. All worthy, awesome foreign flicks that made serious waves here in the States. My favorite, however, was Tell No One, a taut and mind-bending French thriller from Guillaume Canet(and produced by Luc Besson). The film was something of a hit over here, earning roughly $6M with practically no recognizable stars and extremely limited marketing. In fact it did so well that almost immediately word of an American remake was in the works. >sigh<  Are people so stupid they can't read and watch the action at the same time? Aaargh!!! Walk and chew bubble gum? Hello? While I hoped it would die a quick death, in August of last year we learned that Andrew Dominik(The Assassination of Jesse James) was writing it, dashing my hopes. Well, the Dominik thing didn't work out, but the film's still getting made dag nabbit!

Following up on the story from earlier today about Ben Affleck putting the cast of his upcoming film Argo through the wringer, comes word from Deadline that Tell No One will be Affleck's next project. The story is based on Harlan Coben's 2001 novel about a doctor whose wife has been murdered by a serial killer. Years later, he becomes the suspect in seemingly unrelated double homicide, drawing suspicion that he killed his wife as well. Soon after clues start turning up that his wife may actually be alive. It's a fantastic nail biter of a story, and one that I wish folks would get up off their butts and see in it's original version.

Not having read the book, I don't know if the French version sticks closely to the source novel. So that makes me wonder if this take will be more like the book or the film.  Chris Terrio, who just wrote Argo for Affleck, is penning the script.

I'm not thrilled this movie's even happening, but I can't deny Affleck is a solid choice. He may even be perfect for the lead. Don't be surprised if he winds up starring as well.
