Tops at the Box Office: Super 8 has monster debut

1. Super 8- $37M
Well Paramount, JJ Abrams, and Steven Spielberg must be pleased. Despite mysterious marketing that kept a lot of the film under wraps(until the last few weeks that is), and a lack of recognizable stars, Super 8 opened like gangbusters with $37M. Now the question turns to how long this will last. Is Super 8 one of those hits that just rolls right along? Moviegoers have granted it an exit score of 'B+', which means it's definitely well-liked, which could turn to a solid hold next week.
2. X-men: First Class- $25M/$98.9M
Professor X's young students actually out performed the adults in the majority of the X's previous films. The 55% drop is 2nd best for the franchise as a whole, although the total gross is the least at this stage.

3. The Hangover Part II- $18.5M/$217M
Holding strong after the 2nd week dip exacerbated by the huge 1st week holiday opening. I expect this one will surpass the original in terms of worldwide numbers.
4. Kung Fu Panda 2- $16.6M/$127M
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides- $10.8M/$209M
6. Bridesmaids- $10.2M/$124M
How insane is this showing for Bridesmaids? Once again for well over a month it has the smallest drop in attendance at only 16%.
7. Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer- $6.27M
 Rough patch for family flicks like Judy Moody, which rode a relatively weak campaign to a lackluster opening. The TV spots bore quite a resemblance to Ramona and Beezus, but failed to even match it's debut.
8. Midnight in Paris- $6.15M/$14.2M
9. Thor- $2.37M/$174M
10. Fast Five- $1.71M/$205M
