Lorenzo Di Bonaventura talks Red sequel, says script is completed

Summit didn't waste much time getting a sequel to Red up and running. The surprisingly successful actioner starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren as a team of older retired ex-CIA agents sucked back into the game when their old bosses try to rub them out. Earning over $180M, the box office haul surprised producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, which is why he was so quick to get writers Jon and Erich Hoeber back on board. That was back in January, and now Di Bonaventura tells MTV that not only is the script finished, but we might see a few new additions to the already outstanding cast...

Di Bonaventura: "We just got a script and it's really good. We're all just now discussing how to put it all back together again."

"I think the audience would be disappointed if we didn't bring back the crew, but we've got to freshen the crew. We'll bring in one or two characters that'll play a really big part — maybe three, but definitely one or two. You know, Marvin and Frank and Sarah, you want to spend more time with those guys. Sometimes there's a tendency to want to do too much of a good thing so you don't really service anything, so we're really trying to stay focused on our core crew with one or two new additions."

Smart idea. You don't want to turn Red into the geriatric version of The Expendables, with every actor with an AARP card lining up to shoot a bazooka. Come to think of it, Red and The Expendables aren't that different in concept. Maybe they should crossover?
