Trailer Time: 5 Days of War, starring Emmanuelle Chriqui and Val Kilmer

5 Days of War, aka 5 Days of August, is a war film surrounding the Russia/Georgia conflict from back in 2008. One of the unique factors of that particular war was the lack of media coverage for a pretty long time until it became too serious to ignore. We didn't care about it here until it became wrapped up in our Presidential elections. The attempt by a handful of local media to get the word out about the war appears to be at the heart of this movie....until it starts looking like a run of the mill actioner.

Renny Harlin directed, and it that should be enough to tell you this isn't going to be much of a deep thinker. Die Hard 2, Cutthroat Island, 12 Rounds, Deep Blue Sea. These are the films of Harlin, none of them very good and in the case of Cutthroat Island it stunk so bad careers were ruined forever(Geena Davis). He's done some decent things, though, too(The Long Kiss Goodnight), and maybe this will be one of those. Check out the first trailer below...

Certainly looks good. The film was shot in the capital of Georgia, and the authenticity is obvious from the start. Not so sure about the believability of the leads as hardened war correspondents, but to be fair the trailer doesn't give us much to work with. It's due to release on August 19th, but I have my doubts it'll be any more than a handful of theaters. Emmanuelle Chriqui, Rupert Friend, Andy Garcia, Val Kilmer, Dean Cain(??), Heather Graham(???), Richard Coyle, Antje Traue and Jonathan Schaech star.
