Those who know me will probably think I'm doing this just as a chance to take a shot at comedian Eddie Griffin. That's simply not true. So what if at one time he was a personal favorite of mine, with the potential to mainstream his in your face style similar to the great Robin Harris or how we all wish Eddie Murphy had done. I still rank 2002's Undercover Brother as one of the funniest African-American comedies ever made. It's hilarious to this day. Yet since then his career has plummeted to the point where he's staring up at Martin Lawrence and even Chris Tucker on the relevance scale. Sad. But I still find myself hoping for a bounce back, and eye his future roles with interest.
Griffin has been tapped to star in Atypical Love, an indie romantic comedy from co-writer and director Jennifer James(Mommy & Me). Griffith will play a successul investment banker who sees his life sabotaged by a powerful attorney as both men pursue the same woman. Steven Bauer(Scarface) will play the attorney, with co-writer R. Keeffe Griffith as Griffin's best friend. Ming Ballard co-stars.
I haven't seen Griffin on screen since he appeared opposite Eddie Murphy(ironically) in Norbit. I'm curious to see how this one shakes out, although the chances of it hitting any theaters near me(or anywhere for that matter) are slim. [Variety]
