Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy team-up to commit ID Theft

As much as I have always loved Melissa McCarthy, there's a part of me that's a little worried about her post-Bridesmaids success. Suddenly she's the most in demand comedic actress in Hollywood, and you can find her name attached to projects with her Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, and she'll be a part of Judd Apatow's Knocked Up spinoff. Those are just a couple. What I don't want is her for her to fall into the same schtick that has befallen her soon to be castmate, Jason Bateman, as the two have signed on to star in another comedy titled ID Theft.

Writen by Steve Conrad(The Weather Man), the story centers around a guy who gets his identity stolen by another. Originally it would have featured Bateman and another male in the two roles, until he saw McCarthy's breakout performance in Bridesmaids.  The script is currently being re-written by Craig Mazin, no doubt adding the same touch of class he brought to The Hangover part II.

Bateman is also producing the film, and I don't want you to think I don't like him as an actor. He's hilarious more often than not, and was particularly good in Horrible Bosses earlier this summer. But he does seem to be going through the motions sometimes, like he was in The Change-Up. [Deadline]
