Mary-Louise Parker joins the cast of R.I.P.D.

It was only back in June we learned that Jodie Foster was being sought for a role in R.I.P.D(Rest In Peace Department)., an adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novel following a pair of deceased detectives in a supernatural agency. A couple of years ago I would've said her participation wouldn't have made much sense, but with films like The Beaver and Neill Blomkamp's upcoming Elysium, Foster's been making some offbeat turns. Unfortunately we never heard confirmation of her signing, and now we know the role she was being eyed for has gone to Mary-Louise Parker.

R.I.P.D. is being directed by Robert Schwentke, who was behind the camera for Parker's last action pic, Red. Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges will star as the pair of undead cops, one a recently deceased cop and the other an Old West gunslinger. Kevin Bacon will play the bad guy, presumably the one who killed Reynolds' character. Stephanie Szostak(Dinner for Schmucks) has a role as well.

Parker's character is Procter, the leader of the agency and the one who explains to Reynolds' character what happened after his death. There's a pretty big difference stylistically between Foster and Parker, but I'm liking the way this film is shaping up.

R.I.P.D. won't be out for awhile, set for June 28th 2013. [Variety]
