Ridley Scott to produce and direct sequel to Blade Runner

Dude. I don't know what's gotten in to Ridley Scott, but he must be feeling awfully nostalgic. Although he's had numerous hit films over his legendary career, he can really be defined by two classics: 1979's Alien, and 1982's Blade Runner. He's already hard at work on Prometheus, a totally unexpected Alien prequel featuring the likes of Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace. It was expected after that was finished he'd jump into his Monopoly adaptation(seriously) or one of his dozens of other possible projects, but instead he's shockingly agreed to produce and direct some sort of follow-up to Blade Runner.  Sci-fi nerds rejoice!

Or maybe recoil in anger? Deadline notes that Scott has made the deal with Alcon Entertainment, producers of the hit sports drama, The Blind Side. Right now it's unclear whether Scott's film would be a sequel or a prequel. The direction he plans to take will go a long way in cementing how some of that film's devoted fans will feel. Revisiting any beloved property is risky business, with a high probability of alienating new and old viewers. Blade Runner took a long time to find an audience, at first looking like a flop on par with Scott's debut feature, The Duelists. However it's grown into more than just another cult favorite. Blade Runner is generally considered one of the best pieces of science fiction ever.

Based on Philip K. Dick's short story, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the story takes place in a dystopian future Los Angeles in 2019(!!!!!, that's right around the corner!!) where a group of human looking robots called replicants have escaped. Harrison Ford plays a blade runner, a special operative tasked with bringing them down.

I'll be curious to see if anybody from the original will appear, although I doubt it. Harrison Ford probably still has a bad taste of sci-fi in his mouth after the disasterous Cowboys & Aliens. Rutger Hauer would be cool, and even though it'll never happen I'd kill for Sean Young to quiet the voices in her head and make a cameo or something.

This one might be a ways away still, as no writer has been found and the whole thing has to take shape. But what I want to know is what everybody else thinks. Do you want to see another Blade Runner after all these years? Who would you want to see in it?
