Sure Shots: Fantastic Voyage; Brian De Palma; Tony Scott
* Shawn Levy has some balls, but with the string of hits he's had under his belt I can see why. The Real Steel director was recently chosen to direct James Cameron's vision for Fantastic Voyage, the classic sci-fi tale about a team of scientists shrunk down to enter a colleague's body and cure him. THR reports that Levy is meeting with Will Smith as a possibility to star, with 20th Century Fox a little antsy about doling out big bucks. If an A-list star isn't able to be agreed upon, it's said Levy may just leave the project altogether. D'oh.
* Brian De Palma has hit a rough patch in his storied career. We haven't seen him since 2007 where his Iraq War film, Redacted, drew mostly derision from folks all across the political spectrum. But he's back now, and Deadline reports he's set to direct The Key Man, about a single dad targeted by the US government because his body contains national secrets. Ugh. Maybe De Palma should, I dunno, wait around awhile longer to jump back into the game?
* While Ridley Scott is content going back in time with his Alien prequel and just announced Blade Runner follow-up, his brother Tony is delving into the classics for his next gigs. I'd count this as a misguided move, but Tony apparently wants to do a remake of Sam Peckinpah's awesome Western, The Wild Bunch. Sorry, man. You don't fuck with The Wild Bunch. Leave it alone. Brian Helgeland, who wrote the God awful Robin Hood we were subjected to last year, will script. But before that even gets underway, Scott is jumping aboard the film we first heard about last spring. He'll be directing Hell's Angels, a tale surrounding the infamous motorcycle gang, based on Sonny Barger's autobiography. At one time Mickey Rourke and Shia Labeouf were set to star, but they've apparently left. Scott reportedly wants Jeff Bridges for the lead, but no talks have been entered.
