Trailer Time: The Way, starring Martin Sheen and directed by Emilio Estevez

People forget, but former Brat Packer Emilio Estevez has been directing films since 1986's Wisdom. He went from that to the underrated garbage men flick, Men at Work, in 1990. I count that as one of the personal favorites of my teen years because it was so damn stupid. Bowling with trash can lids? Who does that? Estevez made his first truly credible film in 2006 with the multi-character JFK film, Bobby, an impressive feature which required him to manage a large ensemble dealing with a pivotal time in a lot of people's lives. I figured after that we'd be seeing more offers thrown his way. 

Those offers don't seem to have materialized, though. His next film to hit the big screen is The Way, a decidedly personal one which sees him collaborating with his father, Martin Sheen. The ex-West Wing star plays a father who travels to France to mourn the death of his son(Estevez, who also wrote the script) who died during a storm while making a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Deciding to not just mourn but to honor his son, he chooses to walk the same path himself, meeting other lost souls on the journey.  Deborah Kara Unger(Silent Hill) and James Nesbitt(Match Point) co-star. Expect a small roll out for this one when it opens on October 7th.
