Book of Mormon star Josh Gad joins cast of sex comedy Thanks For Sharing

I'll be perfectly honest, everytime I've seen Josh Gad on screen in something he sorta fades into the background. I guess the first time would have been in the lowbrow Rainn Wilson comedy, The Rocker. Probably wasn't Gad's fault because even the great Emma Stone sorta disappeared in that one opposite Wilson's routine. That hasn't stopped Gad's career in any way, though. In fact he's been all over the television the last few years, appearing in everything from Californication to The Daily Show. He had a small role in last year's Love and Other Drugs, bately he's been earning rave reviews for his leading performance on stage in The Book of Mormon, the religious satire by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Now he's set to find himself back in movie theaters in a film that looks to be his most promising yet.

Variety reports that he's joined the cast of sex addiction comedy, Thanks For Sharing, the directorial debut of Stuart Blumberg, writer of The Kids Are All Right. Mark Ruffalo, Joel Richardson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Tim Robbins are already locked in to in the story of three people who become friends while attending a self help group for sex addicts. Gad will play Neil, "an unrestrained sex addict with a strong appetite. He cheats his way through recovery programs until Ruffalo’s character becomes his sponsor and helps straighten him out.” Doesn't really sound all that funny, does it? I'll be curious to see how that plays out. I'm already kinda sensing this one having a similar tone to last year's It's Kind of a Funny Story, which took on a fairly serious issue in a light hearted way. Then again so did The Kids Are All Right.

Shooting kicks off later this month in NYC, so expect to see Thanks For Sharing pop up hopefully some time in 2012.
