Kevin Costner no longer in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained

Maybe the change of direction was too stark for Kevin Costner to bear? After taking on the role of saintly Pa Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman flick, Man of Steel, Costner followed that up by entering talks to star as the villainous mandingo trainer in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.  Apparently it wasn't as signed, sealed, and delivered as we thought, as Variety reports that Costner is no longer part of the project. D'oh.

Costner would've played Ace Woody, the right hand man and brutal slave master for Calvin Candie(Leonardo DiCaprio), a villainous club owner holding hostage the wife of freed slave, Django(Jamie Foxx). Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson are co-starring, with the film set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2012.

I'll be curious to see who he replaces Costner with, as Tarantino seemed to be aiming deliberately for an actor going against type. Who's the nicest actor in Hollywood right now? Look for him to get a phone call soon.
