3. Adam
Holy crap. I forgot this movie even existed but when it premiered on TV back in 1983 it was basically the tool parents used to scare their kids into NEVER ever leaving their parents sight. Not even for a second. Adam is the son of John and Reve Walsh(Daniel J. Travanti and JoBeth Williams), a 6-year old boy who is kidnapped from a local mall. A nationwide search for the boy ends about as badly as any parent could hope, leading to John becoming the crusader we all know now as the guy behind America's Most Wanted.
2. The Kennedys
The Kennedys may not have been nearly accurate enough for The History Channel, but it's bawdy take on the lives of the political royals was just what the Reelz Channel ordered. The family's protests slowly faded away, especially as the series earned more praise than jeers upon airing, including winning four Emmy Awards. So what was the big deal? Accusations of poltical backroom deals? Infidelity? Alcoholism and drug use? This is the Kennedys we're talking about here. Hasn't that stuff been part of the discourse for like fifty years now?
1. Bridesmaids Even if this wasn't such a soft week for DVDs(The Kennedys, really??), Bridesmaids would likely end up at the top of my list no matter what the competition. Even I wouldn't go so far to say it's the best movie of 2011, it's certainly the funniest and the one I've been craving to watch again and again. Hell, I saw it three times in theaters and it was better each time. Kristen Wiig leads a talented pack of funny ladies dealing with the various anxieties of an impending wedding. Don't let that one-line synopsis fool you. This is no Bride Wars. Bridesmaids actually celebrates the friendships between these women rather than destroys it, but does so with enough raunchy humor that guys won't curl up into the fetal position.
