Trailer Time: Wuthering Heights, directed by Andrea Arnold

I don't know what's happend to me in my advanced years, but at some point I rounded a corner and started to fall in love with the types of historical romance flicks that used to bore me to tears. I adored Jane Eyre just a few months ago, the same with Bright Star and The Young Victoria. I don't know what's going on but later I'll be checking to make sure my nuts are still where they'e supposed to be. Whatever the case may be, there are a number of reasons why I'm looking forward to the latest adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel, Wuthering Heights.

The first of which is the director, Andrea Arnold. Her last film, Fish Tank, was a powerhouse effort fronted by a feisty performance by newcomer Katie Jarvis(where's she been!!??). Heights ran roughshod through Venice, wowing critics and studios alike, ultimately being bought for distribution by Oscilloscope Pictures, meaning we'll get to see it stateside before too long. But also I dig Arnold's guts to cast virtual unknown James Howson as Heathcliff, the "romantic hero" of the film, marking the first time an African-American has ever played the role. A bold move you'd expect from a bold filmmaker like Arnold, and by all accounts Howson knocks it out of the park.  Kaya Scodelario(Moon, Clash of the Titans) is tackling the other iconic role of Catherine Earnshaw.

So now a new trailer has been released, and while I see hints of some of the darker corners Bronte's story turns to, I feel like a lot is being held back also. Perhaps we'll see more once a more extensive trailer hits. Check it out for yourself below...[TheGuardian via ThePlaylist]
