Liam Hemsworth, Dane DeHaan and a ton of others looking to star in The Host opposite Saoirse Ronan
Even though it may suck something fierce, Stephanie Meyer's Twilight novels are pretty easy to follow. A healthy dose of teen angst, with the ferocious emotions of young love, add vampires and werewolves, and there ya go. So I'll be curious to see if the adaptation of her far more confusing novel, The Host, will be nearly as successful.
Set to star Saoirse Ronan(Atonement), the story is set in the future where alien "souls" have taken over the planet. Wanderer is a veteran soul who has lived on multiple planets and posesssed many hosts before, but when she takes over the body of rebel fighter Mel Stryder(Ronan), she becomes overwhelmed by the power of human emotion, and Mel's desire to find her missing boyfriend and brother.
Ronan will take on dual roles in the film, that of Wanderer and Mel, but there are a number of guy parts that need to be filled. Variety notes that Liam Hemsworth(The Hunger Games), Kit Harington(Game of Thrones), Jai Courtney(Spartacus: Blood and Sand) and Max Irons(Red Riding Hood) are up for the role of Jared, Mel's love interest. Dane DeHaan(In Treatment), Thomas McDonnell, Augustus Prew(Charlie St. Cloud) and Jake Abel(I Am Number Four) are vying for the role of Ian, who strangles Wanderer when she first appears. In one of the most puzzling aspects of the story, Ian eventually falls in love with Wanderer, but they can't be together because Mel only loves Jared. Oi vei.
While production doesn't have a start date yet, the film is set to open on March 29th 2013 with Andrew Niccol(In Time) directing.
