New poster for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance!

Boy, all those comic book nerds(of which I'm one) sure seemed to like what they saw of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance at last summer's Comic-Con, didn't they? Made it sound like it was the greatest thing since microwave bacon, and that the Crank duo of Neveldine/Taylor had finally cracked the code to the flameheaded anti-hero. Bzzzt! Wrong! The film screened at Harry Knowles' annual Butt Numb-A-Thon and the geek reaction to it has ranged from "terrible" to "makes me look fondly back on Ghost Rider". Ouch.

I have a hard time believing the film is as bad as all that, mainly because the cast is greatly improved with the additions of Idris Elba and Ciaran Hinds, but also because it seems to embrace the comic's pulpy roots. For Nicolas Cage, he appears to be channeling his character from this year's Drive Angry, and to be honest that's the tone the film should be going for.  We'll see when the film revs into theaters on February 17th, but for now settle for the slick new poster released by Columbia Pictures.
