Rumor: Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'Black Sands' now a supernatural thriller titled 'Black Sunday'

So what the heck is going on with Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest action thriller, Black Sands? If you recall back in October, the Governator signed up for the rather bland sounding flick which looked like a throwback to the 1980s films by John McTiernan. Directed by Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, the duo behind the military recruitment actioner, Act of Valor, the story was described as being about a loner who goes on a one-man war against a weapons manufacturer and his private army. Well, according to some there has been a pretty drastic shift.

It all started on the fansite, The Arnold Fans, where it was revealed that the film's title had been changed to Black Sunday, and that it's now a supernatural thriller with Arnie playing an immortal angel taking on weapons dealers. Ugh. So....basically it's Constantine meets Eraser? Recently a rep for the film has stated that the title will remain Black Sands, but apparently the "supernatural" bent is here to stay. Perhaps it was always there from the beginning and nobody ever knew except for writer Skip Woods(The A-Team)?

As Shocktilyoudrop correctly guessed, the new plot does sound an awful lot like what The Punisher comic books did a few years ago during their most confused period ever. That was when Frank Castle committed suicide and was brought back as an angel equipped with heavenly weaponry who fought demons and battled crime. It was awful, and the last thing I expected was to see it reborn in a Schwarzenegger flick.

We'll see how this shakes out in the end, but it doesn't sound good. Schwarzenegger is currently filming The Last Stand due out in 2013, and will appear next in The Expendables 2 on August 17th 2012.
