Trailer Time: Goon, starring Seann William Scott
There are a number of reasons why I'm having a hard time getting into the hockey comedy, Goon. For one, it stars Seann William Scott, an unfunny actor who has been living off his Stifler role in American Pie for more than a decade. What's he done since that anybody cares about? Bulletproof Monk? *snort!* Second, it's about hockey, which unless I bought a ticket has about as much appeal as a bloody anal cyst. And three, it's directed by the middling Michael Dowse, who earlier this year gave us the disappointing 80s rehash, Take Me Home Tonight.
Plus the film just looks stupid and sophomoric. That's not usually something I would rail against, but it's stupid, sophomoric, and not particularly funny, either. The only exception might be Liev Schreiber as another hockey hatchetman looking like an extra from Sons of Anarchy.
The latest trailer has been released ahead of the film's March 30th release. I'll trust that the usually reliable writing duo of Jay Baruchel(who also co-stars) and Evan Goldberg(Superbad) are hiding something great here, but as my homie John Nolan previously noted, it looks like Happy Gilmore. To me that's not a good thing.....
