Trailer Time: Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, starring Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor
For me, Lasse Halstrom's recent films haven't exactly lived up to the promise of his earlier work. The Swedish filmmaker will be forever praised for films like My Life as a Dog, Chocolat, and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. But nobody's going to remember him for crap like Dear John and Casanova. Fortunately, there's been some solid buzz building around his next film, the Brit comedy Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.
Featuring a script by Simon Beaufoy(Slumdog Millionaire), the film stars Ewan McGregor as a fisheries scientist saddled with the unenviable task of bringing salmon fishing to the desert highlands of Yemen. With the help of the sheik's aid(Emily Blunt), the two fall in love while taking on this remarkable, unbelievable assignment. Kristin Scott Thomas co-stars as the press secretary for the British Prime Minister, looking to use it as a "feel good" story.
The new trailer is surprisingly good, with Blunt and McGregor already showing their screen chemistry, and the film has a whimsical, romantic feel to it. Hopefully this will be Hallstrom's big comeback. We'll find out when the film opens next year on March 2nd....
